But Micaiah said, "As surely as the Lord lives, I can tell him only what my God says."
"Forty plus Ahab King of Israel against one, Micaiah the Lord's prophet", from the human point of view, he should have just agree to them. Why not? It is not going to hurt him. But Prophet Micaiah stood firm on God's instruction to him. Even though he knew that he would be threw to jail for not telling the king what he would like to hear. Although verse 14b does indicate Micaiah seems to be agreed with King Ahab but I think his answer must be sarcastic, therefore the response of King Ahab was quite angry, verse 15. If his answer was sincere than King Ahab won't be angry, since that was the answer he wanted from everyone.
If this would happen nowadays, then the likelihood of our response will be "who cares" and let them do whatever they want; or even agree with them because they have the majority. As Jesus' follower we shall listen and understand what is God's commands and decrees. Never wander away from them, even if we end up as a group of minority against a group of majority with power. This is especially true nowadays because many Christians and non-Christians doing good deeds and apart from the truth. We need to stand firm on the truth. To stand firm we need to have as least the two attributes mentioned later by King Jehoshaphat of Judah, 1) when we face calamity, our eyes are upon GOD (20:12) and 2) Lord will upheld people to have faith in Him (20:20).
PRAYER: Dear Lord, please give us the wisdom to understand Your will and also give us courage to stand firm on your commands and decrees. Never wandered away from them. Pray in Jesus name. Amen.
